Publications

A few years ago, Katie felt called to resume work on creative writing, songwriting and storytelling. Taking small steps, Katie started to play original compositions for her friends, read original stories to her children, and send prose and poetry to her friends. Her creative pursuits are many and varied, but all give her great joy. She will have two works published in print in 2020 and 2021, one by Flying Ketchup Press of Kansas City, MO and the other by Parsec Ink of Pittsburgh, PA.

“Fomka” – First Place Short Story Winner, Flying Ketchup Press

There’s a land that always smells of mud and river and marsh. Where things that die are taken back gratefully and easily into the earth; not some hardened prairie where the dead must wait until the frost subsides to get a proper burial. It is there that Fomka lives with his mother, father, and brothers. The boys are hunting for rabbits and checking their snares. The oldest brother kills the rabbit and the middle brother carries them over his shoulder. It will be little Fomka’s job to skin them when they get home.

“Labyrinthula animalis” – Publication in Triangulation’s anthology “Extinction”

Can we bring a species back from extinction? Why are dragons not with us today? Would you condemn a whole species to die so you could live?

Explore these tales of species extinction.

Hold fast against the winds of death with the caretakers of the future. Decipher warnings from the past, the future, and worlds between worlds. Be more dangerous than the big game hunters. Doggedly track down the last specimen across three continents. Recognize messages aliens have left for us so we don’t continue on the destructive path we’re on. Are our successors already waiting in the wings?
